Catarina Dahlin is likeable, meticulous and consistent. Born in Lund, Sweden, she has extensive experience in brand building and has lived as an expat in seven different countries. She had no background in fashion before founding Dagsmejan with her partner Andreas Lenzhofer. But she recognised something important: ‘Our lives are strongly influenced by whether we get good, restful sleep. And that depends not only on the beds we sleep in, but also on what we wear directly against our skin at night.’
Six years ago, Catarina decided to research the best materials for sleepwear. ‘There is a great deal of technical and functional clothing on the market, but it is primarily designed for sporting activities,’ Catarina observed. She also asked herself: ‘People spend so much money on good beds, so why not on functional sleepwear too?’ Catarina and Andreas then began working with sleep scientists, commissioned technologists to develop the best materials and collaborated with Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts on the design.
Developing something like this requires not only time, but also considerable financial investment. Catarina Dahlin applied to Innosuisse and received funding that allowed the team to test and develop for 18 months – a fortunate opportunity. Today, there are five collections for different sleep needs. All fibres are natural and achieve their thermoregulating function through different yarn constructions, yarn thicknesses and fibre blends. They are designed to provide warmth when you are cold, cooling when you are hot, or relaxation when life gets hectic.
The sleepwear is not inexpensive, but it is worth the price. I tested the shorts and shirt from the Stay Warm collection because I am someone who is always cold. Merino wool with eucalyptus, no irritating seams or tags. What can I say: Good night!
