United for a Cleaner Planet — Dagsmejan x Buy Food with Plastic
At Dagsmejan, sustainability isn’t a trend — it’s part of our DNA. From using natural, biodegradable fibres to ensuring ethical, environmentally responsible production, we’re committed to reducing the footprint of clothing.
That’s why we’re proud to partner with Buy Food with Plastic, an inspiring NGO turning waste into opportunity. Their mission? To ensure plastic bottles are collected and recycled — not left to pollute our planet — while supporting local communities through meaningful, dignified work.
Together, we’re tackling one of the world’s most pressing issues: the impact of plastic and synthetic waste on our environment.

Recycle 100 Bottles with Every Order
From April 22nd to 27th 2025, for every product ordered, Dagsmejan will help recycle 100 plastic bottles in collaboration with Buy Food with Plastic.
This initiative supports communities in Ghana, Nicaragua, and India — areas where plastic waste often goes unmanaged and economic opportunity can be limited. Through this campaign, we’re helping ensure that plastic is collected and recycled responsibly, while also supporting local employment and access to essential resources.
Every good night’s sleep becomes part of something bigger — a meaningful step towards a cleaner planet.

About Buy Food with Plastic
Buy Food with Plastic was founded in Switzerland in 2018 with the mission to adress two urgent global challenges simultaneously: plastic pollution and extreme poverty. With a simple yet powerful concept, they initiate events where the local population in Ghana, Nicaragua and India can pay for hot meals with plastic bottles. By using plastic as currency, the initiative not only provides essential nourishment but also promotes environmental responsibility in areas most affected by waste and poverty.
The organization is deeply aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 1 (No Poverty) and Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). Guided by the philosophy of “Think globally, act locally,” Buy Food with Plastic transforms complex global issues into locally adaptable and impactful solutions.
Beyond meal exchanges, the collected plastic is repurposed into meaningful products, such as surf combs for coastal communities in Nicaragua and handmade outdoor blankets in Ghana crafted from recycled sachets and cotton fabrics. These creative upcycling efforts not only close the loop on plastic waste but also create local jobs through event organization and production.
In 2024 alone, the initiative helped recycle more than 793,000 plastic items, proving that sustainability and social impact can go hand in hand.

Dagsmejan – Sleepwear Designed for Sustainability
Our sustainability mission is woven through every step of our design process. Made from innovative blends of natural fibers, Dagsmejan sleepwear is gentle on your skin and lighter on the earth:
COOLING EUCALYPTUS
Wood and pulp used by Dagsmejan comes from natural forests and sustainably managed plantations of eucalyptus and other botanic fibres. All fibers are certified with FSC® or PEFC™.
Eucalyptus needs 20 times less water than cotton and 5 times less high-quality farmland.
BALANCING BEECHWOOD
The beechwood used in our Balance collection is sourced from sustainably grown forests in Austria and neighboring countries. Dagsmejan uses fibres from Lenzing, the worlds leading producer of cellulosic fibres and one of the most sustainable and ethical producers of any fibres worldwide.
It’s carbon-neutral, requires less land per tonne than cotton fibres and 10-20 times less water.
BREATHABLE WARMTH WITH MERINO WOOL
Merino wool is a totally natural and sustainable fibre. While synthetic fibres take between 20 and 200 years to biodegrade, merino wool take only 6 months to biodegrade.
We use NATIVA™ wool, which comes from selected farms in Uruguay that are certified 100% muleseing-free and fully traceable and sustainable.
KAPOK
Kapok is a natural cellulose fibre found in the dried fruit of the kapok tree. Kapok trees themselves are entirely renewable, meaning they don’t require any human intervention to grow successfully. And they can grow without any chemicals, fertilizers, or pesticides, which contribute to the overheating of our planet.
Our natural fibers are renewable & degrade more easily than synthetics, and they don’t shed microplastics like synthetic fabrics

Slow Fashion Philosophy
At Dagsmejan, caring for the planet doesn’t stop at what we wear — it extends into how each piece is made. Our sustainable processes address some of the most urgent challenges in the fashion industry:
-
The clothing industry accounts for 10% of global carbon emissions — our European-based production reduces transport distances and associated emissions.
-
23% of global chemical use is linked to apparel — we use natural bleaching methods and ensure all processes are Oekotex-certified.
-
Fashion consumes over 1.5 trillion litres of water annually — our fibres, like eucalyptus and beechwood, require up to 20x less water than cotton.
-
72% of clothing contains synthetic fibres that can take up to 200 years to decompose — our fibres are naturally sourced and break down in as little as six months.
By designing for longevity, working with nature and producing responsibly, we’ve created an approach where what you wear and how it's made truly matters.
